Dry Skin Care for Bank Clerks and Cashiers09/26/2006 For over a century mothers have been telling their children to wash their hands after handling paper money. “You never know where it’s been” is the usual warning. To prevent infection from the germs on money, bank clerks, cashiers and other people who handle money on a daily basis wash their hands with antibacterial soaps and use antiseptic hand lotions and wipes. However, using these products is self-defeating as the resultant dry skin makes you even more susceptible to contamination. While hundreds of dermatologists are now recommending a shielding lotion to heal and prevent dry skin and protect you from harsh chemicals and pollutants, it may also help prevent contamination. Using antiseptic products causes a number of problems. 1. The harsh chemicals in the products strip the skin of its protective layer of natural oils. The result is damaged, dry skin which does not protect you from germs or other pollutants and dangerous chemicals with which you come into contact, and fewer options that are effective at handling any form of contamination. A shielding lotion could be a better alternative. A good shielding lotion bonds with the outer layer of the skin to form a protective barrier than inhibits direct contact with and absorption of harmful substances, while locking in the skin’s natural moisture.
